HIS MAJESTY ACCEPTS TURKEY CREDENTIALS

His Majesty King Letsie III says the opening of Turkey diplomatic mission in Maseru, Lesotho will cement the existing relations between the two countries.
This, he said when accepting a letter of credence from Turkey Ambassador to Lesotho, Ms. Aysegul Kandas at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday.
His Majesty said the country is ready to work with Turkey and explore opportunities that could contribute towards the economic development of both countries especially after the impacts of COVID-19.
He expressed gratitude to Turkey for assisting the country by providing  Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), medical equipment and food parcels amongst others as part of COVID-19 relief.
Furthermore, he assured the new Ambassador of the government and Basotho’s support during her tenure of office.
Presenting her letter of credence, Ms. Kandas said her presence in the country will further strengthen bonds of cooperation between the two countries, saying it is the desire of the Turkey government to open the embassy in Maseru.
She added that Turkey, through the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) provided medical equipment, PPE in hospitals and clinics in Lesotho as well as the construction of greenhouses in some schools and food parcels in rural areas as part of COVID-19 relief.
She added that the provision of scholarships for Basotho nationals to further their studies in Turkey cements the existing relations between the two countries.
Ms. Kandas said Turkey through its partnership with Lesotho aims to give momentum in the fields of Agriculture and Trade amongst others.
Turkey and Lesotho historically have friendly relations and through TIKA, Turkey has built schools and hospitals in Lesotho.
