HIS MAJESTY RECIEVES LETTERS FROM KOREAN AMBASSADOR

His Majesty King Letsie III has received letters of credence from the Republic of Korea`s Ambassador Designate, Mr Dong-Han Yang, in Maseru on Wednesday.

Speaking at the occasion, His Majesty expressed gratitude for the strong working relations between the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Republic of Korea, noting the positive impact of having a Korean Embassy in Lesotho. He highlighted that it has been 60 years of diplomatic relations and collaborative efforts toward international peace.

He indicated that during Ambassador Yang’s tenure, the plan is to expand the scope of their relations by improving agriculture and food security.

He said that this comes at a critical time when Lesotho is facing multiple challenges, including hunger and poverty, but expressed optimism that the new Ambassador’s presence would help address these issues of security, the improvement of digital technology, and the development of infrastructure.

On the other hand, Ambassador Yang highlighted the importance of a shared partnership for economic growth to improve the lives of people in both countries.

He spoke about the initiatives to establish open markets that would benefit both Lesotho and Korea. Additionally, he mentioned the significance of leveraging bilateral relations to support nation-building efforts, especially as Lesotho celebrates 200 years of its existence.

Furthermore, he emphasised the need for remarkable service delivery that positively impacts people and establishes a clear forward structure. He assured His Majesty of his commitment and hard work to build on previous relations during his tenure.

Diplomatic relations between Lesotho and Korea were established in 1966, and the two countries have enjoyed warm and cordial relations characterized by mutual respect and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. The Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement signed in 1981 further solidified these ties.
