On the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) The Honourable Ministers of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Rets’elisitsoe Matlanyane, and the Minister of Natural Resources Mr. Mohlomi Moleko paid a courtesy call on the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Ms. Amina J. Mohammed. The Honourable Ministers expressed appreciation on behalf of the Government of Lesotho for the UN’s continued support in different sectors.
Dr. Matlanyane as Head of Delegation, highlighted Lesotho’s progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She emphasized Lesotho’s intensified efforts towards attracting both foreign and local investments to scale up implementation of the SDG agenda. She further outlined key national priorities which include strengthening public financial accountability, promoting private sector investment in natural resources, enhancing food security and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
The UN DSG commended Lesotho’s commitment to sustainable development and reaffirmed the United Nations’ support for the country’s efforts towards achieving the 2030 Agenda despite the existing challenges.
