The National Assembly has adjourned sine die after the Members of Parliament (MPs) unanimously approved the motion of the Leader of the House, Justice Nthomeng Majara on Monday.
When moving the motion, Justice Majara said it was the culture and calendar of the events of the House to adjourn sine die either the end of November or the first week of December to adjourn.
She said the adjournment will enable the members to go to the fields to plough as well as to go to their constituencies to report back as well as to meet with their elders, more especially during the festive season.
Furthermore, she said the members will have an amble time to refresh in order to return to the House well rested ahead of the reforms processes, now that the Court of Appeal nullified the planned Standing Order No. 105, whose objective was to start the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, where it ended when the 10th parliament was dissolved.
The Leader of the House appealed to all the 120 MPs to support the enactment of the reforms for the benefit of the entire Basotho nation.
She was seconded to this motion by Minister of Health Mr. Selibe Mochoboroane who also urged the Members to go and work on their fields for the summer cropping since the farming season is almost over.
However, Basotho National Party (BNP) Leader Mr. Machesetsa Mofomobe said while he supported the motion for the House to adjourn sine die, he expressed his concern over challenges on the shortage of fertilisers for working on their fields.
He also alleged that some farmers in his home district of Quthing claim that they are requested to buy data for the Extension Officer in order to assist in taking measurements of their fields before they could have access to the farming inputs.
According to the calendar of the House, it adjourns for the festive season and should reopen in February for the preparation of financial estimates, it will also break for the Easter Holidays as well as for the winter recess and for the Independence Holidays.
