NRA CHAIRPERSON COMMENDS MEMBERS

The National Reforms Authority (NRA) Chairperson, Chief Pelele Letsoela commended members for successfully strengthening the work of different committees within NRA.
Chief Letsoela said this on Tuesday at the old Parliament Building in Maseru during a session that saw the adoption of media amendments amongst other things. Adoption of the said amendments will therefore form part of the constitution.
In this regard, the Chairperson assured members that even though the work of NRA expires in two months’ time from now, more work still needs to be done in order to attain goals and objectives aligned to the transformation journey.
“I will therefore inform SADC representative about all this next week. However, the decision as to what should happen going forward does not lie with me as the Chairperson,” he noted.
Meanwhile, under the media sector, these amendments were in relation to the following: General Principles of Media in Lesotho, Media Council of Lesotho, Media Ombudsman of Lesotho, Freedom of Expression, Freedom of the Press, Independent Communication Authority and Lesotho Public Broadcasting Corporation.
Deliberating on Lesotho Public Broadcasting Corporation, one of the members, Mr. Sebehela Selepe said functions of the Board of Directors should well be articulated, and term of office should clearly be stated, adding that amongst other functions, the board should be the one hiring.
NRA was born out of the Multi-stakeholder National Dialogue Plenary II held at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre, Maseru on November 25 to 27, 2019.
