Honourable Richard Ramoeletsi Minister of Justice and Law

Honourable Richard Ramoeletsi is the Minister of Justice and Law, the position he was appointed to in November 2023. He is a Senator under the Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) political party for Mekaling Constituency No.62 following the October 2022 National Assembly Elections. In November 2022, he was appointed the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Employment (merger of former ministries of Public Service and Labour & Employment). While serving in this ministry, he served as an overseer for the restructuring of the merged Ministries of Public Service, Labour and Employment, Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police, Defense, National Security and Environment, Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture, Arts and Social Development, Natural Resources as well as Finance and Development Planning. Hon. Ramoeletsi's responsibilities included the reorganization of the administration of the Human Resource Management Cadre to improve service delivery. Overseeing all labour-related issues of the Public and the Private Sector. His achievements while serving in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Employment included the recruitment of high-level positions of Principal Secretaries and the Government Secretary; the reduction of backlog in the payment of terminal benefits for Teachers; reforming the labour market by fast tracking completion of the reviewed Labour Law to do away with the dichotomized labour administration in the Country and also fast tracking finalization of the Occupational Safety & Health Act and the National Social Security Act. Following the appointment of new Cabinet ministers in November 2023, he was transferred to his current position as Minister of Law and Justice. While in the Ministry of Law and Justice, Hon. Ramoeletsi's responsibilities include; improving access to justice, reviving the National Reforms Programme and National Institutional Renewal, and reducing incidences of Human Rights violations on gender-based violence against children and treatment of offenders. He is also responsible for enhancing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms within the Lesotho Justice sector and strengthening the capacity of Justice Sector Institutions.   Education He studied Masters in Rural Resource Management and BSC Honours in Forestry. Political Career He is an active member of the Revolution for Prosperity Party (RFP). He has never been involved in politics before, this is his new political journey.   Career Outside Politics Honourable Ramoeletsi is a change agent and enthusiastic leader who is committed to creativity, customer satisfaction and ethical decision-making. He has spent the best of his professional life as a Lecturer at the Lesotho Agricultural College on Forestry. He spent 14 years as a manager of International Organizations such as Lesotho Durham Link, Care International and Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA). Honourable Ramoeletsi also featured as a Resettlement specialist and team leader for SEEDCO Consultants and WSP/SI Futures Consultants respectively. He also served as Lesotho’s Ambassador to Japan covering the Philippines and the Republic of South Korea from 2010 to 2016. During that period, he was appointed as the Dean of Ambassadors as well as Chairperson of the Southern African Development  Committee on Trade and Investment. Personal Life Honourable Ramoeletsi was born at Ha Tumo in Mohale’shoek on 21st May 1958. He is married and is blessed with four children. In his leisure time, he enjoys taekwondo, tennis and farming.
