The government of Lesotho has expressed concern over the bombing of the diplomatic residence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Sudan last month.
This, after UAE Ambassador to Lesotho Mr Mahash Saeed Alhameli informed the government on this matter during his visit in the country a few days ago. This is as per the press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
It states that the government indicated that the attack on diplomatic residence is a grave violation of the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises.
Furthermore, it indicates that it is the principled conviction of the Lesotho government that despite the ravaging war, protection of civilians and the key installations including diplomatic premises is a sacrosanct principle of the United Nations that must be respected all the time.
The government therefore reiterated its appeal for an immediate cease-fire that would mark the beginning to the end of hostilities and return to normalcy, so that the ordinary people of Sudan could enjoy their normal life and livelihoods including freedom to choose their own government.
Meanwhile during his visit, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Mr Ntsokoane Matekane and they discussed issues of mutual interest and concern while further enhancing the bonds of friendship and good diplomatic relations that so happily subsist between the two countries.
Reports indicate that UAE diplomatic residence was bombed during the ongoing war between the Sudanese Army led by the Head of Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Sudanese Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces led by Muhamed Hamdan Dagalo.
