DPM LEADS CLEANING CAMPAIGN

The Deputy Prime Minister, aslo Minister of Justice, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Justice Nthomeng Majara led the ‘Hloekisa Lesotho’ cleaning campaign in Leribe on Friday.

While addressing the Linare community, Justice Majara commended them for keeping a fairly clean environment and abiding by the Prime Minister’s call to keep clean surroundings.

She said the government has engaged in a several measures such as the implementation of the plastic levy to ensure that Lesotho is kept clean.

She added that another measure is that of a clean environment competition in which inspectors will go around in each district spotting the one that keeps the most clean environment.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Limpho Tau said the ‘Hloekisa Lesotho’ campaign was initiated by the Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane in April and should be done every last Friday of the month.

He added that the Department of Environment through the directive of the Prime Minister is expected to formulate bills that will force everyone to participate in the cleaning campaigns.

Mr. Tau stressed that keeping a clean environment should be a compulsory measure for every citizen not just the responsibility of the government.

Meanwhile, a resident of Hlotse Mr. Lenonyane Nteso said the importance of keeping a clean environment contributes to clean soil that could be used for agriculture to improve food production in the country.

He stressed that a dirty environment affects the circulation of clean air hence affects the human respiratory system while also contributing to the cause of diseases such as tuberculosis.

The cleaning activities are carried out every last Friday of the month in all districts.
