ECONET SIM CARD REGISTRATION DEADLINE DUE

The initiative to register SIM cards which was launched on June 24, 2022 is about to come to an end.

Even individuals purchasing new SIM cards were mandated to register within a week to avoid potential service disruptions.

In an interview with the Agency, Econet Telecom Lesotho’s Public Relations Manager, Mrs. Puleng ‘Mathabo Masoabi, revealed the company’s decision to extend the SIM card registration deadline was to ensure all customers comply with the necessary registration requirements.

However, by June 2023, it became apparent that not all customers had followed the registration guidelines, prompting Econet to grant an extension.

With the deadline set for January 31, 2024, Econet recognised the need for further flexibility and announced another extension until April 30, 2024.

Following this final deadline, any unregistered SIM cards will face deactivation, with the associated mobile numbers being reallocated to new customers.

To prevent potential corruption and ensure accountability, individuals failing to register within the stipulated timeframe will be required to obtain a new SIM card promptly, registering it within seven days.

This measure aims to safeguard against misuse and establish clear ownership of mobile numbers in case of any discrepancies or issues.
