GOVERNMENT INTERVENES ON FUEL PRICES

The government has subsidised the increasing fuel prices by M1.50 excluding paraffin with M1.10 from July to December this year.
According to the Minister of Energy and Meteorology, Mr. Mohapi Mohapinyane, this was done in collaboration with the Minister of Finance and in accordance with the Fuel and Services Control ACT of 1983 (1) (a).
He said the new fuel prices will be fixed for a period of six months and stand as follows, Petrol 93 will now cost M22.20 Petrol 95 M22. 65, Diesel M23.05 and Paraffin M17.80.
Mr. Mohapinyane said these changes will be monitored by a committee made up of the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum Fund, Office of the Auditor-General and the Accountant General, saying the government will put aside M30 Million per month to manage fuel prices.
He said if there will be any changes regarding this situation, necessary measures will be taken.
He, therefore, appealed to the business community to comply with changed fuel prices, noting that officers will monitor the situation at filling stations and those who do not comply will be brought to book.
Speaking in an interview with some members of the public, Mrs. Mamoliehi Ralebakeng expressed gratitude to the government over subsidised fuel prices, saying the cost of living has increased whereas salaries remain the same.
She, therefore, commented that the subsidy will indeed make a difference.
Meanwhile, as of June 04, Petrol 93 increased by M3.00 per litre and now costs 23.70, petrol 95 with M3.20 making it M24.15 per litre, diesel M0.75 and costs M24. 55 while paraffin was increased by M1.10 making it M18.90 per litre.
