GOVERNMENT IS STABLE-PM

The Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro says the government exists and is stable.
This, he said at the joint press conference held at State House in Maseru on Monday.
Dr. Majoro said the purpose of the press conference was to assure the nation that regardless of the event that took place in the National Assembly in the past weeks where some Members of Parliament caused havoc, saying the government still and will exist until the general elections which are to be held in September this year.
He mentioned that the government will fulfil its mandate that was given to them by the nation, noting that they will achieve this through the support of the political parties that formed a coalition government.
He said there is nothing wrong with what other Members of Parliament did as they were exercising their parliamentarian rights within the National Assembly.
He further mentioned that the Parliament need to work together as it needs to pass the 11th amendment.
The Prime Minister assured the nation that the budget will pass and the funds will be distributed on time despite the instability that was experienced in Parliament during a budget speech.
Also speaking, the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Mathibeli Mokhothu said the government has a majority of 66 seats in Parliament, thus Democratic Congress (DC) has 29 seats,  All Basotho Convention (ABC) 21, Movement for Economic Change (MEC) 5, Basotho National Party (BNP) 4, Popular Front for Democracy (PFD) 3, National Independent Party (NIP) 1, Basutoland Congress Party (BCP) 1, Reformed Congress of Lesotho (RCL) 1 and Marematlou Freedom Party (MFP) 1.
DPM said this number is enough to counter the motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister when Parliament reopens on 17 March 2022.
This was the first press conference held since the instability that broke during the 2022 budget speech.
