HOME AFFAIRS DENIES ALLEGATIONS

The Ministry of Home Affairs has refuted allegations that only 10 passports are produced per district in a day.

This is according to the press release issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.

According to the press release, the ministry issues passports to all Basotho who need them, stating that the ministry issues passports to Basotho for various reasons that include going to work, school, health centres and other emergency responsibilities outside the country.

The press release states that the ministry follows the new procedure that was implemented on 1st July 2022 whereby applicants have to answer questions that will ensure that they are indeed in need of passports.

It further shows statistics of passports produced in different districts but have not been collected thus; Botha-Bothe 729, Leribe 858, Berea 304, Mafeteng 226, Mohale’s Hoek 557, Quthing 355, Qacha’s Nek 360, Thaba-Tseka 259, Mokhotlong 410 and Maseru 1374 thus bringing the total number to 5 432.

The press release, therefore, states that the listed statistics are the reason that made the ministry change the way it operates regarding issuing of passports.
