PREPARATIONS UNDER WAY FOR BICENTENNIAL CLIMAX

In anticipation of Lesotho’s Bicentennial celebration in October 2024, measures are underway to honor the nation’s heritage, address contemporary challenges, and pave the way for a promising future.
In an interview with the Lesotho News Agency (LENA) one of the organizers, from Moshoeshoe’s Peace Covenant, Dr Lehlonoholo Moeti,  said  they are collaborating with the Department of Arts and Culture, in the Ministry of Tourism, Environment, and Culture to organize a national prayer on June 28th.
Themed around, “Repentance and Thanksgiving”, the event aims to acknowledge past shortcomings while expressing gratitude for ongoing contributions to education, healthcare, and other sectors.
He said the objective is to confront challenges in Maseru City, such as crime and social issues. He added that plans are in place to implement Movement Day.
“This initiative aims to unite churches, businesses, and governance structures through prayer, fostering a collaborative approach to address societal issues”, he continued.
He also pointed out that recognizing a decline in the national education system, efforts are being made to shift from a focus on employment-oriented training to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. He said the goal is to empower Basotho  to harness their talents and create employment opportunities, aligning with the demands of the fourth industrial revolution.
Furthermore, he highlighted that there will be an International Conference on Christianity and Leadership in Africa, which is aimed at exploring the historical and contemporary influence of Christianity on leadership in Africa. He said Lesotho will host that international conference, added that the conference aims to deepen understanding and foster dialogue on the intersection of faith and governance.
These initiatives signal Lesotho’s commitment to honoring its past, addressing present challenges, and embracing a future of prosperity and cultural resilience as it approaches its Bicentennial milestone.
