PUBLIC URGED TO PARTAKE IN CLEANING CAMPAIGN

The Maseru District Administrator (DA), Mr. Tšepo Lethobane has urged members of the public to engage in monthly cleaning campaigns to keep the district clean and healthy.

Mr. Lethobane made a call at the press conference held in Maseru on Thursday ahead of the cleaning campaign scheduled for Friday.

He reminded the public, including the business community that it is not only the responsibility of civil servants to clean the city but the public in general.

“We have met with the foreign business community and sensitised them about the importance of the cleaning campaign and they pledged to partake,” he said.

He added that the business community in general also pledged to provide cleaning materials such as dust bins, saying to ensure that the cleaning campaign remains sustainable, they will also engage the media as it has the potential to influence and educate the public about the importance of a clean environment.

He further appealed to men to refrain from urinating everywhere within the city but use public toilets, emphasising the need for the construction of more toilets within the city.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lethobane said the cleaning campaign will take place tomorrow at Maseru Bridge, Thetsane, Qoaling and Leqele , saying all civil servants from different ministries will partake in the campaign.

Operation Hloekisa Lesotho campaign was launched in April this year by Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane and is implemented every last Friday of the month countrywide.
