LMPS RECEIVES SPEED TRAPS, BREATHALYSERS

The Road Fund in partnership with Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB) donated speed traps and alcohol breathalysers to Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) at the event held at LMPS headquarters in Maseru on Thursday.
When handing over the donations, the Minister of Transport, Mr. Tšoeu Mokeretla said the donation will help prevent the overwhelming road challenges and save lives.
Mr. Mokeretla said these donations are a demonstration of the excellent collaborated relations between ministries and the private sector in finding solutions to the challenges that confront Basotho daily on the roads, noting that speed traps and alcohol breathalysers will go a long way in saving lives and improving road safety.
He noted that most deaths on the roads are caused by high speed and misuse of alcohol hence pleading with road users to always adhere to laws regarding road safety.
Also speaking, the Road Fund Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Nkekeletse Makara expressed his hope that this equipment will be used on all roads in the country, saying this will restore road safety and Basotho will respect the laws of the road.
Receiving the donations, the Minister of Police, Mr. Lepota Sekola thanked the Minister of Transport together with Road Fund and Maluti Mountain Brewery for the donations, saying the donation will help to improve the LMPS service on road safety.
He urged those who will use this equipment to take care of it so that it could benefit the police.
The donation includes two speed cameras amounting to M400 000, 00,  30 breathalysers worth M500, 000.00 and police hats together with freezer jackets, adding that there will be a sponsored training for the operation of cameras that is worth M50, 000.00.
