MMB HANDS OVER ALCOHOL EVIDENT CENTER TRUCK

The Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB), in collaboration with stakeholders, continue to promote responsible alcohol consumption and road safety in Lesotho.

As part of their efforts, they handed over an Alcohol Evident Center Truck to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to enhance enforcement of liquor laws and regulations.

On behalf of the Country Director of MMB, Mrs. ‘Mapulumo Mosisili emphasised the importance of promoting responsible alcohol consumption and aligning with global strategies for sustainable growth.

She said the launch of the South African Brewery shop (SAB shop) in 2021 by their parent company, South Africa Breweries was to accelerate efforts in curbing irresponsible consumption through partnerships with various stakeholders.

The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Matjato Moteane expressed concern over the high number of road accidents in the country, attributing 66% of deaths to these incidents.

He assured that the department will take proper care of the newly acquired property and emphasized a fair and equal distribution of services to all individuals in the country.

The representative of Taxi Associations, Mr. Sehloho Sehloho thanked MMB for the valuable gift, stressing its potential to reduce car accidents caused by reckless driving behaviour.

He urged the department to utilize the vehicle effectively without bias, highlighting the dangers of distracted driving, such as using phones while behind the wheel.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Moqebi Likhama, outlined the police’s duty to prevent crimes, particularly drinking and driving, and to safeguard lives and property.

He noted the significance of the Alcohol Evident Center Truck in enforcing road safety measures, citing recent cases where individuals driving under the influence were apprehended using breathalysers.

This new asset will enhance the police ability to address alcohol-related road incidents effectively and uphold public safety.
