PM HANDS OVER SCHOOL UNIFORM, LEARNING AIDS TO SCHOOLS

The Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane handed over school uniforms and learning aid equipment to three schools in Maseru on Thursday.

The schools are Mabathoana High School, St. Bernadette Primary, and Resource Centre for the Blind and over 127 learners have benefitted. The donation included full school uniforms for both boys and girls, white cane and braille.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Matekane said the act of giving back to the community was an initiative made by the Members of the Parliament (MPs) as well as the Cabinet, saying he is grateful that other members of the public have contributed.

He said investing in education is an important aspect that can help Lesotho’s economic growth, adding that this will also build young children with confidence and eagerness to achieve.

Mr. Matekane assured teachers and learners that the government will support them in order to achieve quality education.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education and Training, Minister Pitso Lesaoana said the shortage of teachers at the Resource Centre for the Blind has been a challenge for a long time and needs to be addressed.

He added that the ministry is also planning to look into the issue of learners’ accommodation at school thus enabling them to go to their homes during school vacation and come back to school after the vacation, saying the issue of accommodation has also been a long-time challenge.

On behalf of the school’s management, the Principal of Mabathoanana High School, Sister Batilda thanked the Prime Minister and his partners for giving learners their school needs.

She said this has brought confidence in learners and will encourage them to perform better in their school work.

Also speaking on behalf of the learners, Thato Shea expressed their gratitude to all who contributed towards the gesture. He made a promise that all efforts will be rewarded with good work.
