PM MEETS DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS

With the hope that reforms will in the end bear fruitful results, the Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane held a one-day meeting with Development Partners in Maseru on Thursday.

In his address, the Prime Minister explained that the meeting is meant to present the government’s plan on the way forward following the Appeal Court ruling on Kananelo Boloetse’s case concerning reforms otherwise known as the Omnibus Bill.

He said all recall that everything stopped when the Bill was about to be tabled, Boloetse and others sued, adding the court has therefore made a ruling that the 11th Parliament should not renew the work of the 10th Parliament in as far as the matter is concerned.

He therefore said, going forward the government will abide by the ruling of the court adding that after Christmas, they shall be following normal processes and stages of how Bills are passed in Parliament.

The PM said the government will put a new structure (professional one) next year after the National Reforms Transitional Office (NRTO) expires in March, saying that will help put up a new structure thus ensuring that the journey of reconciliation among the nation is achieved amicably.

The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Justice Nthomeng Majara also assured Development Partners of the government’s commitment towards realizing reforms, hence thanked them for their continued efforts in achieving this goal.

On behalf of the Development Partners, Mr. Mario Giuseppe Varrenti of the European Union (EU) thanked the government for sharing light and clarifications on this journey, promising the government their support.

He said as the country will be celebrating 200 years of the existence of the Basotho nation, it will be a milestone celebrating when reforms implementation has kick started.

Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Justice and Law, Mr. Richard Ramoeletsi.
