PM OUTLINES LESOTHO’S INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane informed the Heads of State and Governments about the investment climate and opportunities in Lesotho during his presentation held at the Africa Investment Luncheon Summit held in New York, United States of America.

In his presentation, the Prime Minister highlighted key investment sectors in the country which include agriculture, manufacturing, innovation and technology as well as renewable energy in all forms such as water, solar and wind to answer the needs of Basotho.

The Prime Minister further outlined the unique selling points of the country which among other things include access to world markets such as the US, Europe, China, and Africa.

The Prime Minister is reported to have held Bilateral Meetings with the President of the Republic of Korea and the Commonwealth Secretary General.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane also held a bilateral Meeting with the Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) where among other things he expressed Lesotho’s vision to have investments so to  address the gaps in transport infrastructure, renewable energy, ICT and digital transformation as well as Agribusiness and therefore requested support in this regard.

Mr. Mpotjoane wrapped up the day with a meeting with the representative of the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The meeting discussed a range of issues centred on possible funding for Lesotho to mitigate the climate change effects, which the GCF promised that Lesotho could be considered for more funding after member states had made new pledges during the Climate Ambitious Summit.

The Minister concluded the meeting by inviting the GCF to the “Water and Hydrogen Conference and EXPO to be held on October 12-13 in Maseru, Lesotho. The representatives noted that they would consider participating and promised to support the outcomes of the conference related to energy.

The meeting was also meant to establish a roadmap following the UNOPS Africa Regional Office working visit to Lesotho in August.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is expected to deliver his maiden speech to the UN General Assembly on Friday.
