PM PLEDGES SALARY TO THE NEEDY

At least 20 vulnerable homes of the elderly, orphaned children and centres of disability were given donations as per their requests from the Prime Minister at the Christmas charity event held at the State House in Maseru on Thursday.

This event is the result of the pledge that the Prime Minister made when resuming office as Prime Minister that he will give his salary to assist in areas of the vulnerable across the country.

While handing over the gifts, the Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane said this initiative comes after a declaration that he made when campaigning for the general elections.

He said this shall be every year event which is aimed at making a difference in the lives of the vulnerable.

Mr. Matekane stressed that for the remaining years as Prime Minister, all his salary will be diverted into such donations.

Meanwhile, the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Ms. Moleboheng Mokobocho said the donations are being made as per the request of each centre.

She said the salary of the Prime Minister which has been collected from November last year to November this year amounts to M600 000.00.

Ms. Mokobocho further explained that the gifts include food donations, electric appliances, furniture, school fees, water and electricity bills to mention but a few.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. ‘Maseeiso Seeiso thanked the Prime Minister, saying this is the first time they have experienced such in their centres as in the previous regimes had only been promises.

The Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane is the leader of Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) Political party and resumed office as Prime Minister of Lesotho in November 2022.
