PM TABLES GOVERNMENT’S PLAN FOR REFORMS

The Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane tabled the government’s plan on reforms at a breakfast meeting held in Maseru on Thursday, following the post-Appeal Court judgement on reforms.

The meeting saw the presence of Parliamentarians and other stakeholders in reforms. It was meant to re-appeal to those with power to ensure implementation of the process following the government’s ruling by the court that the government through the 11th Parliament should not resuscitate the work of the 10th Parliament about reforms.

In his speech, the PM mentioned that reforms are a continuing process beyond government, saying those with power including Parliamentarians ought to make it a point that this initiative aimed at attaining eternal peace and economic growth attains its goals.

“We can only achieve the Lesotho we want if we work together, while also using the positions vested upon us by Basotho to deliver”, he said.

The PM said the government accepts the court’s ruling, saying after Christmas, they will start the process, thus ensuring that normal processes are followed for the passing of the Omnibus Bill as ordered by the court.

On the same note, the Minister of Justice and Law, Mr. Richard Ramoeletsi thanked all for having agreed to the invitation at this time when many had already left to go and be with their families for the Christmas holidays.

Also speaking the President of the Senate, Mrs. Mamonaheng Mokitimi re-assured all sectors of the society that as the government has already reiterated, opinions of all matters as far as reforms are concerned, saying where stakeholders feel they still need to say more, such will still be accommodated when the Bill is at the committee’s stages in Parliament.

Similarly, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane appealed to all to move speedily as this is the long-awaited process.

“Let us unite and solve problems facing this nation for the benefit of all Basotho and the future generation,” he said.

The National Reforms Authority (NRA) former Chairman, Chief Pelele Letsoela appreciated the work of the government in its endeavour to implement reforms.

He highlighted the importance of consultations to ensure that the work of reforms meant to pass in Parliament is recognised by concerned stakeholders.

The Prime Minister is expected to meet with heads of the Diplomatic Missions later today (Thursday) to address the same agenda.
