POLITICAL PARTY LEADERS SIGN AGREEMENT

Leaders of political parties in the National Assembly have signed the agreement to continue with the amendment to the Constitutional Bill (Omnibus Bill).

The agreement which was signed at the State House in Maseru on Thursday, entails that the National Assembly be fully committed to expedite the passing of the 10th amendment to the Constitution Bill.

With the view of giving effect to the consensus reached, they committed to consult the respective political parties and urge them to support the passage of the 10th Amendment to the constitution which may be segregated as Parliament may deem necessary to comply with the requirements of the constitution of Lesotho.

Leaders of the political parties also committed to supporting the finalisation of outstanding elements thus; the Omnibus Bill, their commitment to cooperate with all stakeholders in processing and passing the amendment to the Constitution Bill and other related Legislative Instruments.

They are also committed to upholding the true spirit of the principles underpinning the reforms process and will remove all the obstacles and impediments that have the potential to delay the passing of the 10th Amendment to the Constitutional Bill.

In an interview with the Deputy Prime Minister, Justice Nthomeng Majara said they will have two consensual workshops where the omnibus bill will be discussed, adding that all the relevant stakeholders will be given a copy of the bill before the workshop to study it.

The signatories are the Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mr Mathibeli  Mokhothu, and the other nine Political Parties while the remaining parties are expected to sign later today.
