REGULATION OF AVIATION VITAL-TRANSPORT MINISTER

The Minister of Transport, Mr. Tšoeu Mokeretla says Lesotho needs to have a system in place to regulate aviation.
Mr. Mokeretla said this following the Southern African Development Community (SADC) virtual meeting for Ministers responsible for transport, ICT information and meteorology which was held on Friday. The meeting discussed issues related to media, internet use and transport issues.
The Minister of Transport said amongst issues discussed that relate to transport included aviation.
Mr. Mokeretla said the main reason to focus on transport was to avoid potential risks that affected people’s lives, saying the country needs to have a system in place to regulate aviation.
Mr. Mokeretla noted that the government must ensure that Moshoeshoe I International Airport is in a good condition for aviation, saying the government will make efforts to ensure that the airport meets international standards of aviation.
Also speaking, the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Mr. Tšoinyana Rapapa said issues related to the use of the internet were also discussed at this conference.
Mr. Rapapa mentioned that 24 resolutions have been reached which included the publication of policies relating to media as well as laws governing the use and protection of internet resources, citing Cyber Security Bill.
He further stated that an agreement on the transmission of broadcasting waves was reached at this meeting where neighbouring countries will access such waves without any cost.
The SADC meeting of ministers responsible for transport, ICT, information and meteorology came after the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology launched the Digital Migration in Thaba-Tseka thus moving from analogue technology to digital technology.
