ROMA GETS CLEANED

The second week into the new year, government ministries and parastatals on Friday embarked on Operation Hloekisa Lesotho at Roma in Maseru.

The participating Ministries at Roma included employees from the Ministry of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), other ministries and parastatals who embarked on cleaning the Roma Valley.

Speaking in an interview, MICSTI Deputy Principal Secretary (DPS), Ms. Lineo Ramabele-Smith, expressed gratitude that the cleaning campaign was successful, saying the number of public servants engaged had increased when compared with the previous cleaning campaigns in Maseru. City.

Mrs. Ramabele-Smith said this success could be attributed to the fact that the campaign is gaining momentum or that people are starting to understand the importance of the campaign.

She commended the Roma community for its participation in the cleaning campaign, saying it was notable.

Mrs. Ramabele-Smith added that compared to other areas they cleaned, Roma is clean except for the challenge of disposable nappies which are disposed of everywhere.

Speaking with one of the community members who took part, Mr. Thabang Nkaleche commended the government for the initiative saying they hope this has motivated the community to keep their area clean.

Mr. Nkaleche therefore urged the Roma community to keep cleanliness, stressing that it is their responsibility to ensure that their area is always tidy.

The cleaning campaign saw different departments, ministries and parastatals taking different routes to cover the Roma Valley starting at Mangopeng to Ha-Scout, Ha-Scout to Post Office and from Post Office via St. Joseph’s Hospital to Ha-Mafefooane.

‘Operation Hloekisa Lesotho’ which was launched by the Prime Minister, Me. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane in April 2023 is aimed at keeping the environment clean hence the country. It is a monthly operation led by Cabinet Ministers in all districts of the country.

Meanwhile, in Qacha’s Nek, the operation was led by the Minister of Justice and Law, Mr. Richard Ramoeletsi who revealed that the campaign which was scheduled for every Friday month end has been revised to Friday the second week after the realization that it is an inconvenience to people who work in districts around the country.

In Mokhotlong, the Minister of Gender and Social Development, Mr. Pitso Lesaoanac expressed happiness for being in Mokhotlong to lead the campaign. He was speaking with public servants from different departments and some of the youth who assembled at the District Administrator’s Office before the cleaning campaign could start.

He urged the Mokhotlong community to own the operation by taking part in the cleaning campaign to keep the district tidy at all times.
