RTT PROJECT IN PILOT STAGE QUTHING

The three-year Rapid Rural Transformation (RRT) project to the tune of more than M6.5 million is expected to be implemented at Ha-Mohlakoana area in the Telle Community Council starting this month.

The RRT project is an initiative of the World Food Programme (WFP) and other development partners intended to establish a solar-powered hub, suitable water resources and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in remote areas allowing the provision of essential services such as energy, water and digital platforms to the community in an environmentally responsible manner.

Briefing Heads of Department (HOD) on the implementation of RRT pilot project at Ha- Mohlakoana area, the RRT Pilot Project Senior Programmes and Public Relations Expert Mrs. ‘Matoka Moshoeshoe said the project will be piloted at Ha-Mohlakoana due the outstanding public commitment, success and ownership observed during the implementation of Improving Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable and Food Insecure Population (IACOV) in 21 sites of different districts of the country.

The Project Communication Specialist, Ms. Morogoe Masilo said the solar hub will be managed by the community and will allow different partners to set up integrated community services such as training centre for various activities on food production, business skills, digital classrooms and irrigation, adding that more rooms for different business for hire will also be available.

The District Disaster Management Officer, Mrs. ‘Manaha Posholi said the RRT project is important as it combines two climate risk mitigation strategies to assist the people in better natural resource management through enhanced agricultural techniques to ensure ongoing food production and diversifying their livelihoods to withstand climate shocks.

Speaking at the same event, the District Police Commander, Senior Superintendent ‘Mmamoipone Mohloai expressed gratitude for the project and recommended that there should be room for the police to provide security services to the community that currently gets police services at Mphaki police station.

On the other hand, the District Council Secretary, Mrs. ‘Mamorena Ntsukunyane expressed gratitude for the projects and emphasised the Mphakoana community has set an example, saying the first help is provided to those making an effort.

The meeting was attended by HODs from different departments that include, Social Development, Statistics, Forestry, Education, Trade and Police.
