SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ON NSPS II DISSEMINATION

The Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development is currently disseminating the National Social Protection Strategy 2021/2031(NSPS) II among social protection and livelihood enhancement stakeholders countrywide.

This was said by the Director Planning, Mrs. ‘Mankhatho Linko from the Department of Social Development when presenting the strategy to stakeholders at a one-day workshop held in Mokhotlong on Monday.

Mrs. Linko said the strategy was developed in 2021 and approved as a working document in 2023, adding that it is geared towards the uplifting of livelihoods of the people especially those who need assistance the most.

She explained that social protection refers to a set of policies and programmes aimed at preventing, reducing and eliminating economic and social vulnerabilities to poverty and deprivation through social protection.

She added that through the strategy, the government intends to improve the livelihoods of people and achieve a quality life for all.

The Director said gaps that were identified resulted in the design of the strategy expected to be implemented by all stakeholders in social protection issues to ensure gaps are addressed by all and not the Department of Social Development alone.

In his brief remarks, the Mokhotlong District Administrator, Mr. Kepa Keqe encouraged all to keep up the collaboration demonstrated to ensure the strategy is implemented effectively by addressing challenges facing different members of the community.

The workshop served as a platform for building a common understanding of the actions that need to be taken in implementing the strategy and creating stakeholders’ awareness of the role each has in implementing it.
