LESOTHO TEXTILE MANUFACTURERS TO PARTICIPATE IN MAJOR AFRICAN FASHION EXHIBITION IN CAPETOWN, SOUTH AFRICA.

At least 15 textile and apparel producers from Lesotho are set to participate in the annual All Fashion Sourcing exhibition scheduled to take place from July, 14 to 16, in Cape Town, South Africa.
The announcement was made during a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Business Development in Maseru where the significance of the event was to promote Lesotho’s growing textile and apparel sector on the continental stage.
Addressing the media, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Business Development Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo said this will be the second time that Lesotho participates in the prestigious fashion and sourcing exhibition.
He noted that the country’s continued involvement demonstrates government’s commitment to strengthening the textile and apparel industry, which remains one of the key contributors to employment and economic growth in the country.
Mr. Maqelepo delineated that the exhibition presents a unique opportunity for local manufacturers, designers and entrepreneurs to showcase their products and capabilities to a broader international audience.
He explained that participation in the event is expected to open doors for new business partnerships, attract potential buyers and investors and expose Basotho producers to emerging trends and innovations shaping the global fashion industry.
“The event will provide an important platform for networking and business-to-business engagements. It will enable our producers to interact with industry leaders, retailers, suppliers and potential clients from across Africa and beyond,” he said.
Furthermore, He indicated that the exhibition attracts participants from numerous African countries, creating an environment where local businesses can learn from their counterparts, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for regional trade and collaboration.
The Minister emphasized that government’s support for the sector forms part of broader efforts aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Basotho businesses and increasing the country’s export potential.
He said the exposure to international markets is critical in helping local producers improve product quality, meet global standards and diversify their customer base.
Mr. Maqelepo also highlighted the importance of the textile and apparel sector in creating jobs, particularly for women and young people, noting that initiatives such as participation in international trade fairs contribute towards sustainable economic development.
Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries of this project Ms. Khoboso Matsoakeletse welcomed the move, expressing optimism that the exposure they gain from the exhibition helps position Lesotho as a competitive player in Africa’s fashion and textile value chain while creating new opportunities for business growth and export expansion.
The participation of Basotho producers in the upcoming exhibition comes at a time when the country is seeking to diversify its economy and strengthen industrial development through increased trade and investment opportunities.
The initiative is being undertaken by the Government of Lesotho with financial support from the European Union through a project implemented by GIZ.
