CYBERSECURITY CAPACITY TRAINING COMING SOON

The Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST) in collaboration with the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) will hold a three-day cyber security capacity building workshop on Tuesday next week (May 10-12).
Unpacking the purpose of the press conference, MCST Minister, Mr. Tšoinyana Rapapa mentioned that the purpose of the workshop is to produce an evidence-based report pertaining to the capacity of the country as far as cybersecurity is concerned.
He noted that at the end of the workshop, a report detailing a pragmatic set of actions to contribute to the advancement of cybersecurity capacity maturity gaps and identify priorities for investment and future capacity building amongst other things.
According to the Minister, it is expected that the Cybersecurity Capacity Centre for Southern Africa (C3SA) at the University of Cape Town, which is working in collaboration with the Global Cyber Security Capacity Centre (GCSCC) at the University of Oxford will provide expertise in this area.
He reiterated that academia, civil society groups, internet governance representatives’ universities, law enforcement agencies, legislators, the private sector and international cooperation will participate in this workshop.
Upon completion of the workshop, Minister Rapapa concluded that a report will be produced by the C3SA and GCSCC which will describe the Lesotho cybersecurity context. The report will also give a summary of findings for each factor and aspect, outlines the stages of cybersecurity maturity and provides recommendations to enable the country to advance cybersecurity capacity to curb crimes related to this concept.
