GRAIN PRODUCTION SATISFACTORY ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Production of grains this season throughout the country is reported to be satisfactory.

This was said by the Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane during his visit at the Selakhapane, Lema fields on Tuesday.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency, Mr. Matekane said with the rate of grain production such as maize, sorghum and wheat that is recognised in most areas across the country, Lesotho can defeat hunger.

He noted that the production at this field is also enough that the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) as the caretaker of the fields will be able to share with vulnerable Basotho households.

Mr. Matekane however urged Basotho to continue engaging in agricultural projects even if they are joined projects.

Also speaking, Second Lieutenant Mafooa Mojakhomo said this initiative is aligned with the Commander of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) efforts of fighting hunger through agriculture and this is a step in the right direction.

He said the total land that has been ploughed in this area is about 246 hectares.

The Prime Minister has urged that agriculture should be prioritised to improve food production in the country.

In the 2024/2025 fiscal year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition has been allocated about M1.6 billion.
