HEALTH RECEIVES NEW AMBULANCES

In commemoration of His 57th birthday celebration, His Majesty King Letsie III donated  M2 million maluti to the government in support of the fight against COVID-19.
The M2 million has been used to buy high care ambulances for the Ministry of Health which His Majesty handed over to the Ministry of Health at the event held at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday.

Giving a brief about the donation, the Senior Private Secretary to His Majesty, Mr. Monehela Phosholi said after several consultations, it was decided that funds allocated for His Majesty’s birthday celebration in 2020 should be used in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Phosholi said it was on this grounds that the Ministry of Health decided to buy three ambulances to celebrate His Majesty’s 57th birthday and to raise awareness about the vulnerability that COVID-19 had caused as well as to contain the pandemic.
Receiving the donation, the Minister of Health, Mr. Semano Sekatle thanked His Majesty for the donation he has given to the ministry, saying this donation comes at the opportune time when the ministry needs more support to deliver health services to Basotho.
Mr. Sekatle said this will also help the ministry to achieve its mandate thus ensuring safety for everyone in need of ambulance services.
Moreover, he noted that so far, the ministry has seven high care ambulances whereas there is a need for 24 ambulances, stressing that the health sector is in shortage of standard and transport patient ambulances.
Mr. Sekatle, therefore, said it is gratifying for the ministry to receive this donation from His Majesty, saying this will make a huge contribution to the health sector.
So far, the Ministry of Health has seven high care ambulances but there is a need for 24 high care, 28 standard and 200 patient transport ambulances.
