IEC ANNOUNCES FAILED ELECTIONS AT MENKHOANENG COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has officially announced failed elections at C0508 Menkhoaneng 08 Community Council following the untimely death of an Independent Candidate ahead of the elections.

The IEC Commissioner, Dr Karabo Mokobocho-Mohlakoana revealed this during the ongoing official announcement of the Local Government elections at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre on Sunday.

She said the IEC will now be forced to hold fresh elections at the C0508 Menkhoaneng Community Council at a later stage.

Furthermore, she announced the winners of the 12 Electoral Divisions within the Menkhoaneng Community Council in which the Alliance of Democrats (AD) has five seats, followed by the Independent Candidates with four seats and one each from All Basotho Convention (ABC), Basotho Action Party (BAP), Democratic Congress (DC) and Revolution for Prosperity (RFP).

She also announced the special seats for women in which ABC, AD, BAP, DC and RFP all have one seat in the Menkhoaneng Community Council.

Dr Mokoboch-Mohlakoana also announced the results for the Semonkong Urban Council where DC has three seats, the Independent Candidates have the same number, and AD has only one seat.

For the special seats for women, DC and RFP have one seat each in the Semonkong Urban Council.

The IEC Commissioner, Mr. Tsóeu Petlane announced the results for Mashaleng Community Council in the Mohale’s Hoek district where DC won six seats followed by RFP with two and AD with only one.

He said the special seats for the F02 Mashaleng Community Council are AD, DC and RFP having one seat each.

The IEC Chairperson, Mr. Mphasa Mokhochane announced the results for the Mazenod Community Council where RFP has three seats and ABC while the Independent Candidates have two seats each.

He also announced the results for Qiloane Community Council where DC has three seats, RFP and Independent Candidates have two seats each.

The announcement of the results which started on Saturday is ongoing in the presence of the IEC Commissioners, Political Parties representatives, media and the Organising Committee of the elections.

The Local Government elections were held on Friday countrywide in which scores of people were seen queuing to cast their votes for their representatives at the local authorities.

There is a total of 950 Electoral Divisions in the country with only 12 Urban Councils.
