INNOVATION, TECHNOLOGY KEY PILLARS-SENIOR RESEARCHER

The Senior Research Officer in the Department of Science, Mr. Tsepo Ntho says the government considers technology and innovation as the key pillars for growth.

He said this when officially opening the 51st annual Lesotho Science, Maths Teachers Association (LSMTA) National Science Fair 2022 held at the Lesotho College of education Maseru.

Mr. Ntho noted that LSMTA has been around for a long time and the progress of the association is now visible, saying the aim of the competition is to promote career guidance as students will see their potential in maths and science so they can take a good career path.

Also speaking, LSMTA President, Mr. Justice Bobe expressed gratitude to Science and Maths teachers, whom he described as heroes for their passion, support, and mentorship of learners at all costs.

He noted that the research reveals that for the past few years, maths and science performance dropped, noting that teachers need collaborated effort to improve the results.

“We have gathered today to witness the importance of science in our lives, through the humble findings of our dearest learners. I, therefore, wish to inform with due respect all relevant stakeholders to consider future scientists seriously,” he said.

He stressed that if teachers can invest their time in learners, the country’s economy shall be positively impacted.

He, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Education and Training to fully support LSMTA, saying as per their objectives, this country would be far economically.

In conclusion, he thanked the Department of Science and all sponsors for the financial support, commenting that this exhibition would not be a success.

On the same token, the Lesotho College of Education Rector, Dr John Dzimba said learners are the future and their future begins now.

He expressed gratitude to the founders of LSMTA, saying it was founded by student teachers many years ago, and therefore urged students to make sure that the legacy does not die.

LSMTA National Science Fair is a two-day annual exhibition of science projects, quizzes and problem solving in which learners from primary and post-primary schools from different districts compete.
