The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) and the Institute of Development Management (IDM) signed the Memorandum of Understanding in Maseru on Tuesday.

Among the collaborations mentioned include students’ displacement, research projects, publications, research materials, staff development skills, external moderations and share of physical resources.

Speaking at the event, the Education Manager Tertiary from the Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Thabeng Rapitso congratulated the two intuitions, saying the signing marks the important value of higher education.

He noted that this initiative will allow the mobility of students from one institution to another, which will enhance good quality education.

He, therefore, urged other institutions to copy this initiative as it will help students to learn without any hiccups.

Also speaking, the LUCT Vice-Chancellor, Adv. Tefo Macheli said both Institutions did not hesitate on the fundamental importance of intuitional collaboration which became a success today.

He noted that it is evident in the objectives of the MoU that shall be consummated today that each intuition has the capacity to discharge such crucial aspects on its own.

He expressed hope that this collaboration becomes an active collaboration, not a grandstanding affair as it has happened in some cases elsewhere.

He stressed that this gesture can help all institutions to have well-grounded graduates with vast exposure to various education systems and offerings.

He, therefore, expressed gratitude to the Board and Council of IDM and LUCT for their governance and guidance and of course endorsement of crucial efforts such as these.

The IDM Country Director, Dr Moeketsi Letele thanked the management of LUCT for agreeing to collaborate with IDM, saying people nowadays live in a dynamic environment since the advent of COVID 19, and they learned that collaboration is important and they need to partner with others to respond to other educational challenges.

”With limited funds and resources, we saw it vital to come up with a strategy to utilize them and this includes displacement of students from one school to the other if need be without any hindrance,” he said.
Dr Letele said both institutions will continue to pursue the mandate of achieving quality education and professional development and respond to the dynamic environment that most of the world has shifted to.

On the same token, the IDM member of the Local Board, Mr. Thuso Green said they are pleased as IDM and are looking forward to fruitful success born from this initiative.

He stressed that it is a good thing to collaborate not compete as institutions of higher learning, saying Lesotho has limited resources therefore collaboration is needed to bear good fruits.

The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of the Council of Higher Education, lecturers from both institutions and student representatives.
