NECC COMMENDS SCHOOLS FOR FOLLOWING REGULATIONS

The National Emergency Command Centre (NECC) has commended management of all schools that opened on Wednesday in Maseru after a break due to the nationwide lockdown for complying with Public Health (COVID-!9) Regulations, 2020.
This is according to a press release from NECC. The release shows that NECC took a tour to these schools which include New Millennium English Medium School and Maseru Private Academy.
It says, in preparation for the re-opening, these schools carried out an extensive fumigation process thus being proactive against COVID-19, stating that this exercise was followed by inspection from the Ministry of Education inspectors hence re-opening on Wednesday.
It further notes that during the tour, these schools were also found to have followed the social distancing rule as a class which in normal situations accommodates up to 40 students now accommodates 15 students and all were wearing masks.
Commenting during the tour, the New Millennium Principal, Mrs. Maliau Rankae said they are committed to observing all rules and regulations meant to save lives while also ensuring quality education to students.
NECC therefore urges other schools’ management ready to open their school to notify the Ministry of Education and Training authority so that their schools will be inspected prior to opening.
According to Public Health (COVID-19) Regulations, 2020 (Legal Notice No. 41 of 2020), schools will only be opened for external classes.
The re-opening of the external classes follows the short break that came after the announcement of the nationwide lockdown by the Prime Minister, Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane on April 29 due to the Coronavirus outbreak worldwide.
