US EMBASSY PRESENTS FINGERPRINT KITS TO LMPS

The American Embassy through its Ambassador designated to the Kingdom of Lesotho on Monday donated 22 fingerprint kits to the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).

When handing over the kits, the Ambassador Ms. Maria Brewer said that the initiative comes in as support from the United States of America in support of the Lesotho government in enhancing the country’s security sector.

She expressed hope that with the kits, the Police will be able to enhance their investigative capabilities while also strengthening the security platforms.

She said that the donation also comes in as a way in which the Police are being empowered to perform their duties and also to foster security.

Ambassador Brewer further mentioned that the US Embassy similarly donated to police in the Qacha’s Nek district.

In her remarks while accepting the donation, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr Mahlape Morai said that the two bodies have had long term working relations which are intended to enhance the security sector across the country.

She said this donation will help reaffirm the Police commitments in ensuring for the safety and protection of the nation at large.

The United States established diplomatic relations with Lesotho in 1966 following her independence from the United Kingdom.

The United States has supported the Kingdom of Lesotho on various initiatives that include the fight against HIV/AIDS through the PEPFAR program which was established in Lesotho in 2006 with funds of about $ 380 million.
