LESOTHO OUR ONLY COUNTRY- KING

His Majesty King Letsie III says Lesotho is Basotho’s only country therefore they should value and care for it.

This, he said at an event held at Thaba-Bosiu marking 57 years of Lesotho’s independence as well as the launch of Bicentenary logo.

His Majesty said the forefathers fought and worked hard for the foundation of the Basotho nation and the independence of the country, saying Basotho were founded on the foundation of love and peace.

He appealed to Basotho to focus on issues that will strengthen leadership and the spirit of unity as they celebrate 200 years of the existence of the nation, discouraging them from getting in the way of developmental issues of the country.

He stressed that Independence Day should be respectfully commemorated as it is an important day in the history of the country, saying Basotho should cherish their independence and work hard to fight poverty, hunger and crime.

His Majesty further called on Basotho to welcome the logo marking 200 years of the nation’s existence, adding that they should engage in celebrating the 200 years with peace and happiness. He urged Basotho to remember their foundations and pillars as the nation.

He also called on churches to lead the country in prayer for rain every Sunday this month as the country faces drought.

The celebration of Lesotho’s Independence and launch of the Bicentenary commenced with a tour of the Metolong Museum by Their Majesties the King and Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso and other dignitaries. There was also a tour of a Cultural Museum at the Thaba-Bosiu Cultural Village where the main event was held.

There was prayer led by the Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) which emphasised the need for Basotho to return to their roots. They prayed for divine healing and reconciliation of Basotho as well as peace.

There was also entertainment through modern and cultural performances
